MalaMala Main Camp is unfenced – an oasis in the middle of the bushveld.
Every aspect of the MalaMala Main Camp (situated alongside MalaMala Sable Camp) is designed to appreciate and enjoy the view of the surrounding wilds. Pathways wind their way along the perimeter of the camp to reveal individual ochre colored units tucked into the greenery which flanks the Sand River. Massive trees and rolling green lawns are filled with birdsong, with the occasional antelope or elephant which seeks the succulence of greenery.
MalaMala Main Camp is the oldest and most historical private game reserve in South Africa and the first to make the transition from hunting to photographic safari’s. Accommodation
Choose between Single Rooms, Luxury Rooms or Luxury Suites that are hidden among the bush and greenery of the camp, providing accommodation of the highest standard and comprising spacious, thatched rondavels (round bungalows) that feature African-style artwork and prints. All rooms have ‘his’ and ‘hers’ bathrooms, minibars, tea/coffee facilities, safes and climate control. Luxury Suites have high ceilings, large beds and glass sliding doors that open onto a private verandas for guests to enjoy wildlife viewing from the comfort of their own room.
Activities
MalaMala Game Reserve has plenty of thrilling safari activities on offer for a range of travellers, from those seeking a unique adventure, to children exploring the bush for the very first time. Guests can enjoy daily game drives in open Land Rovers, where they have the opportunity to view the Big 5, as well as a variety of other wildlife including giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and more. Photographic safaris are a popular activity, and with a dedicated photographic safari vehicle offering bean bags for camera stability, storage boxes for the equipment, under-seat lighting and a camera mount, guests are ensured a brilliant experience. Children’s activities include animal tracking (using spoor), a bush breakfast, special movie nights and basic survival skills training.
