Ulusaba Safari Lodge
The unique tree-house accommodation is what sets this lodge apart from the rest. There are eleven luxurious suites that offer gorgeous views over the African bushveld, and even of the wildlife, including the Big Five, that passes by. This creates a magnificent on-safari feeling twenty-four hours a day. Each of the tree-houses are positioned for the best views of their natural surroundings, but the magnificent Treehouse Suite overlooks the Xikwenga Dam where many animals come to bathe and cool down. The other rooms are divided into the Safari, Elephant and River rooms, and are spacious with outdoor decks. A couple even have private plunge pools.
The main Safari Lodge building is breathtakingly beautiful beneath a canopy of mature Jackalberry trees. Wide expanses of deck allow plenty of space for guests to admire the scenery, and the gorgeous swimming pool is large enough to be enjoyed by all. It is even heated during the winter so that you never miss out on a swim. Soak up the South African sunshine by the pool with a refreshing cocktail, or head over to the Aroma Boma for a relaxing massage. If you are feeling more energetic play a game of tennis on one of the two courts available (with floodlights so that you can play at night), or work up an appetite at the lodge’s gymnasium, complete with free weights, a running machine, bike and other exercise equipment.
The evenings at the lodge are too beautiful to describe, with lanterns, soft lighting and indoor/outdoor fireplaces ablaze. After a delicious dinner, guests are invited to visit the Bush Observatory, and indulge in some stargazing. A telescope is available for great views of the open, starry sky.
Safari Lodge, within the world-renowned Ulusaba Game Reserve, is one of the most highly recommended safari destinations in South Africa. Top-class facilities are available for all guests to enjoy, and fine African cuisine is prepared and served by skilled chefs. The rejuvenating treatments available at the Aroma Boma are simply divine, and the fully-equipped gymnasium with views of the wilderness offers excellent workouts for fitness fans. With so many fantastic facilities, and exquisitely luxurious accommodation options, Safari Lodge is the place to be when embarking on a South African wilderness adventure.
Safari Lodge fits snugly into the bush located beneath a canopy of ancient trees on the edge of a dry riverbed. You’ll love the sense of adventure as you access some of the rooms by swing bridges. Your room will provide fascinating views of the animals as they stroll past on their way to the nearby watering hole.
The 11 rooms at Safari Lodge include a Treehouse Suite overlooking the nearby Xikwenga Dam as well as three other room types: Safari, Elephant and River Rooms, some of which have private plunge pools. Kids over the age of 12 are welcome to stay at Safari Lodge.
We have three adjoining Safari Rooms close to the Main Lodge, offering large viewing decks and en-suite bathrooms with great views overlooking the river bed and waterhole. Relax or cool down in the Safari Lodge pool. If relaxing is more your thing, we’ll make you a cocktail so you can soak up the sunshine. We have three spacious Elephant Rooms with en-suite bathrooms and large viewing decks offering stunning views over the bush. Elephants regularly use a migratory route that passes by these rooms which allows for excellent up-close-and personal game viewing! The location of the 3 Elephant Rooms are ideal for friends traveling together or families with teens wishing to be close to their parents.
Built tree house style and very private we have four River Rooms, with two rooms offering private plunge pools. All are very spacious with snuggling seating areas and striking views of the river bed or bush. Ideal for those celebrating or enjoying a romantic escape as these rooms are secluded and tucked between jackalberry trees. Three of the River Rooms are accessible by swing bridge and are a short walk from the main Lodge.
A spacious and very unique suite featuring a private deck with views over Xikwenga Dam where hippos and elephants come to bathe. There is also a large viewing deck adjacent to the room perfect for breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The Treehouse Suite offers ultimate seclusion and ideal for honeymooners. The location of the suite makes it the perfect choice for avid photographers and birders. The Treehouse Suite is an approximate 10 minute walk from the main lodge and is accessible by swing bridges and raised walkways.
Ulusaba, meaning ‘Place of Little Fear’ strikes the perfect balance between nature and nurture – as well as being an excellent place to observe the ‘Big Five’, it is also an ideal place to kick back and unwind. Ulusaba re-defines the rules of a safari lodge and taken a step away from the traditional colonial style by offering swimming pools, gymnasiums, a wine cellar, Aroma Boma spas with panoramic views, a Bush Observatory perfect for star gazing and tennis courts. With all of these facilities, you really need to plan your days so you can enjoy safari walks, moon-lit bush dinners and of course, the twice daily game drives.
The Aroma Boma is built on the banks of the dry Mabrak riverbed amongst the trees and away from the main lodge area, so the only likely disturbance is perhaps the odd elephant wandering past! Ulusaba uses a range of products from ‘Africology’. ‘Africology’ prides itself on its African roots, taking inspiration from home and using local active ingredients including Rooibos, Aloe, Marula and African Potato. Hit the gym and work up an appetite. It’s equipped with a running machine, bike, multifunctional weight station and free weights.
“This place is simply magical in every way possible! So much so that our whole family felt home sick when we left. A special mention goes to Calvin and John who made our game drives amazing and I’m not sure how they managed to allow us to see so many unbelievable animal sightings in only 3 days ( including the big 5). Thanks for the humour also guys!” –Marbles280
“What a place! This was the first time we were on a safari, and I believe the Ulusaba staff has spoiled us for life. From the moment we landed at the tiny airport, we were treated like royalty – but in a very friendly and almost family-like manner. All of the staff is doing all they can to make you feel like home during your stay. We stayed for almost a week, and had the best time.” –MnOslo
“Everything about the lodge is high-end: the wonderful service, helpful & friendly staff, beautifully designed rooms, excellent food, etc. Words can not truly describe my experience at Safari Lodge. Our game drives were tremendous. Shout-outs to Phil and Dave for taking us around the reserve morning & afternoon to spot awesome wildlife in its natural state. Saw the Big 5 and so much more. This is what it’s about.” –metalgear901
