Tengile River Lodge
*Opening 01 December 2018
Meaning “tranquil” in the local Tsonga language, Tengile River Lodge is situated in a serene setting, on a bend of the Sand River. Here, elegant interiors are complimented by exquisite modern finishes, and inviting, intimate spaces encourage a sense solitude whilst pockets of open space are designed for group gatherings.
Following the curve of the river bank, each area in the lodge will offer magnificent river views. Raised above ground level, the spacious suites will offer sunken lounges, elegant bedrooms and bathrooms that open out onto the forest, creating private spaces in the open air. Cleverly designed living areas can be converted to cater for children’s sleeping arrangements at night.
Built with an extremely light footprint, Tengile will feature nine suites that are raised above ground level to give the impression that they are floating over the riverbed, providing exceptional views from the dappled shade of a cool riverine forest. The spacious suites will offer sunken lounges, elegant bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms that open out into the forest.
Delicate, Zen-like floating suites will peer out from the dappled shade of a cool forest and out across the lush riverbed. Following the gentle curve of the river bank, each area of the lodge will boast magnificent river views. Raised above ground level, the spacious suites will feature cosy sunken lounges, elegant bedrooms and bathrooms that open out onto the forest.
Sustainability lies at the heart of the new lodge’s form and function. Environmentally friendly construction materials have been selected with durability in mind. Automation is being put into place to reduce the use of electricity and the use of solar power has been combined with various procedures designed to increase efficiency both during the build phase and after.
Set out in an open 4×4 safari vehicle in the company of a ranger and tracker team, who will attempt to track your favourite animals. Game drives in the Sabi Sand are able to go off road in search of exceptional sightings, include the members of the Big Five, when not in environmentally sensitive areas or after excessive rain. Afternoon game drives may also continue after dark, with a specially filtered spotlight used to illuminate wildlife that remains active at night
Cleverly designed living areas can be converted to cater for children’s sleeping arrangements, making each of the airy suites family-friendly. A tranquil spa and fully-equipped gym area offer a haven of tranquility where guests can spend the entire day relaxing in between action-packed game drives.
The most prestigious game park in South Africa, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is renowned for some of the best Big Five game viewing in the country. Located on the south-western boundary of the Kruger National Park, there are no restricting fences between the Sabi Sand and the Kruger, enabling the animals to roam freely in a vast conservation area that covers almost five million hectares (over two million acres).
With no boundary fences between it and the Kruger Park, the Sabi Sand benefits from the great diversity of animals found in one of the richest wildlife areas on the African continent and is particularly well known for leopard sightings. Normally notoriously elusive, the Sabi Sand leopards have grown accustomed to safari vehicles, thereby permitting close-up sightings and extraordinary photographic opportunities.
