Make sure that you schedule a bush walk when staying at Nkorho. A ranger will take you for an intimate exploration of nature, and give you all sorts of interesting details about the plants, animals and insects of the reserve. You will be amazed at the complexity of the environment in which Nkorho is situated.
For the walks, it is best to try and wear natural-colored clothing, including a hat and shoes that are appropriate and comfortable for walking. A bit of insect repellant is recommended as well. Bring your camera along, as there will be many sights worth capturing.
At Nkorho, meals are always a special occasion with delicious treats masterfully created by an excellent chef. The lodge is very popular for its wonderful selection of items on its bush cuisine menu, and any guest is welcome to mention special preferences. While breakfasts and lunches are served on the patio of the lodge when the weather is pleasant, dinners are held out in the open boma area. The stars above and the animal sounds coming from near and far, offer a magical and unique atmosphere. In true African style, an African drumbeat signals the meal is ready.
Nkorho Bush Lodge has several state-of-the-art safari vehicles, in which guests will venture out into the reserve to spot some fine animals, and collect some good photographs. The first drive of the day begins early, as more animals are about before the sun is at full strength. You will get a wake-up call about half an hour before the game drive begins – time for a quick cup of coffee and some rusks on the patio. During the morning drive, guests will also be offered tea/coffee.
The times of the afternoon/evening game drives will be given to guests upon their arrival. Although you leave in daylight, the sun soon begins to set, and you will break for a few minutes to watch its blazing colours fade as it sinks below the horizon. Sundowner drinks will be enjoyed while you observe the scenery. Once the sun is down, the reserve seems to change into an entirely different place – one that is exhilarating, slightly scary and alive with nocturnal animals. Making your way through the dark and finding a couple of rarely-seen animals by only the illumination of the ranger’s spotlight, is an experience you do not want to miss!
