Singita Castleton

Discover the Diverse Wildlife of Singita Game Reserve

Overview

Singita Castleton found in the heart of the Sabi Sand offers a new concept of exclusivity and lifestyle safari. A private and intimate lodge, Singita Castleton is designed as the ultimate customised rental, with accommodation in six individual cottages complemented by a swimming pool, wine cellar, gym, tennis court and spa. Castleton retains the inviting, soulful ambience and elegance of the original camp in a series of revitalised spaces that encourages relaxation, togetherness, and a deep engagement with nature.

Living spaces extend outdoors onto broad verandas overlooking a watering hole where animals gather to drink and a country style kitchen draws guests into the heart of the home. Reminiscent of an African farmhouse, richly detailed interiors in a neutral palette contrast with traditional tartans and classic prints creating an unbuttoned, lived-in appeal. Botanical art references, luxurious bedding, country furniture and flagstone floors add a nostalgic, time-honoured ambience to the whole.

What to Expect

The property combines the most refined elements of a private safari lodge with the rustic charm of a country farmhouse. Many antiques and furnishings have been refashioned, adding authenticity to the living areas that extend outdoors onto deep, covered verandas which overlook tranquil lawns, a busy waterhole frequented by game and an expansive swimming pool.

The relaxed and understated interiors of this former home of the grandfather of Singita’s Founder, Luke Bailes, feature nostalgic references that capture the spirit and history of the original camp.

Highlights

Accommodation

The beautiful stone-walled homestead and six double en-suite cottages are perfect for families and friends and accommodate up to 12 guests. Exclusive facilities include a Bocce court, extensive wine cellar, country style kitchen and tennis court, as well as state-of-the-art wellness facilities such as a fitness centre, yoga pavilion and double and single massage treatment rooms. An outdoor boma with uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape allows for magical fireside dinners under the stars.

Conservation

In South Africa, the Singita Lowveld Trust manages a wide range of conservation projects in Singita Sabi Sand and Singita Kruger National Park – from anti-poaching initiatives to wildlife research & land management, sustainability efforts and community partnership projects such as early childhood development, digital learning and a world-class culinary school.

A highly skilled team of tracking dogs and handlers enhance anti-poaching efforts in the Sabi Sand Reserve, while the Trust’s partnership with the global conservation NGO Panthera has shown that the area is home to the largest density of leopards of any protected area surveyed in South Africa. The Panthera’s Furs for Life project – of which Singita is a partner – has reduced the demand for leopard skins with 50%.

Game Drives

Guests of Castleton have their own private field guide and tracker with private Land Rover for the duration of their stay. Daily game drives provide the perfect opportunity to get up close to Africa’s incredible animals, while late afternoon drives reveal the elusive magic of nocturnal Africa. Our game drives are all conducted in state-of-the-art Land Rovers, each accommodating a maximum of six guests. During your stay at Singita Sabi Sand, you are likely to spot a great variety of wildlife including leopard, lion, rhino, large herds of buffalo, elephant, reedbuck, hyena, hippopotamus, nyala, cheetah, wild dogs and many species of birds.

Stored in temperature-controlled cellars, these wines are unlikely to be available anywhere else.

Our Client Reviews

  • Tim Taylor
    Mauritius

It was our 50th wedding anniversary & we took our whole family, our children, their spouses & our grandchildren, 20 strong, on safari at Umkumbe Bush Lodge, Sabi Sands & then for 5 days in the Western Cape. In the Cape we stayed at Lyonesse House in Constantia, a fabulous property for a big group. It was all arranged by Denise of East Cape Tours. Everything went very smoothly & everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thanks Denise!

Stephanie has been the best agent I have worked with in Southern Africa. I bring groups from USA to South Africa and Zimbabwe and she has helped me tremendously.

Cearl Marney was an incredible agent, going above and beyond to arrange our stay at Amakhala Game Reserve. Not only were the arrangements flawless but Cearl also organised a nurse to come to our apartment to conduct PCR tests for the flight home. We would certainly recommend East Cape Tours (and Cearl in particular!) for any holiday bookings! We will be using them again next year Easter for sure!

For our first safari in Africa we decided to go to Sabi Sands private game reserve which was incredible. The whole process went seamlessly thanks to our amazing agent Valencia Sifo.
